As City Manager, Bernie Satterwhite is the chief executive officer and the head of the administrative branch of City government.  He is responsible to the City Council for the proper administration of all affairs of the City, including City finance and budgeting, employee administration, citizen mobility, citizen quality of life, and public safety.

 Bernie assumed his current position in December 2000.  Prior to joining the City staff, he spent two years as Executive Director of the United Way of Lauderdale County (Mississippi) in Meridian, MS.  Bernie spent 25 years in the U.S. Navy as a pilot and retired as Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Meridian, MS in June 1998.  He deployed worldwide on various aircraft carriers and served in numerous shore-based assignments during his naval career. 

Bernie received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in management from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies and National Security Decision Making from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.  He is a member of the Texas City Manager’s Association (TCMA).
